Happy Yorkshire Day!

I can't believe I've only just learnt about Yorkshire Day after living here for over 13 years! Thanks to the wonders of Instagram, I have discovered that the first Yorkshire Day was celebrated in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society as a protest against the local government. 1 August is also the anniversary of the slavery Abolition Act back in 1833, campaigned for by Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce. And if that's not enough for you, Friday was Yorkshire author Emily Bronte's birthday, so this is officially her birthday weekend!
